I have wanted to celebrate the Summer Solstice with some kind of gathering ever since attending a friend's family bonfire on the beach in California many years ago. Though it could be that I have been listening to way too much Loreena Mckennitt over the years. I alway seem to forget about it until it has already passed. Tonight we celebrated with some old and new friends around the fire in the backyard. We made s'mores and talked across the fire. I was a little dissapointed that things didn't break out into a drum circle, which would be totally appropriate given the nature of our celebration, though unbearable on most other occasions. I always picture crazies dancing around a fire welcoming in the Summer months, but the s'mores were good too.
The kids had so much fun with all of the new friends and there was even a little dog for Coco to play with. The whole thing was very last minute as Kgördee only reminded me about it this morning, but it was perfect.
