California Crazy

So my sister calls me up and asks if I want to tag along on her trip to So Cal. The catch is that A) she will only be there for less than 36 hours 2) for a good portion of that she will be working and D) she is leaving in two days. So of course my answer was "Heck Yes, I wanna come!".

Friday I spent most of the day shopping at the Santa Monica Promenade knitting on the beach and generally enjoying how gorgeous Santa Monica is. I also spent a good deal of time driving my sister to and from her job site in Santa Monica (but really BFE). The neighborhoods were so beautiful with all of the over grown vegetation and the winding roads.

It's funny to me how much I miss driving in California and how different it is than driving in Utah. Utah's road ways are so utilitarian where as California's roads are scenic and meandering. Maybe if I lived there I wouldn't feel the same way because I can usually find my way around on Utah's grid system, which is really nice. Maybe things have changed with the introduction of the GPS, hmm. I was however, feeling pretty mappy getting around all those crazy neighborhoods with my phone.

On Saturday we went to Malibu and had a little picnic on the beach. We went walking in the surf on some private beach that we were most likely trespassing on. Oops. When we finally got back to our car we realized that the tow truck that was backing up was also most likely going to be towing our car so we skedaddled.

It was a really fast trip but it was so much fun to get away for a bit and have some alone time and time with my sister. Mostly I just really miss California.
